These documents are the rules. Everything else on this page helps you apply them.
Which level should I compete?
| Level | Who it is for — and when to move up |
|---|---|
| Developmental | New gymnasts. Structure and guidance for training, with a focus on safety and basic skill development. Move to Intermediate once you can do a six-skill routine with minimal extra swings on several events, or you are near the start value cap. |
| Intermediate | Gymnasts with some experience — also the recommended starting point for WAG gymnasts competing MAG. Move to Advanced once you can do a six-skill routine, have a few B value skills or higher, have all of the element groups, are doing mostly WG skills, or are near the start value cap. |
| Advanced | Gymnasts with prior competitive experience. Matches the GymACT rules. |
It’s common for gymnasts to be stronger in some events and weaker in others. We encourage you to pick the level that best fits your strongest event.
And if you placed in the top three on any event at Nationals last year, you should strongly consider moving up a level. If you can meet every requirement in a level, the same applies.
Rule updates
World Gymnastics rule changes and justifications
World Gymnastics sometimes updates their rules through “Newsletters” rather than updating the Code of Points itself. Those newsletters can be found here. UCG generally follows these updates, any deviations will be explicitly noted in the rules documents above.
What changed for 2026-27
Developmental Start Value Cap changed from 12.7 to 12.3.
Intermediate Start Value Cap changed from 13.2 to 13.1.
Intermediate now allows empty half swings.
The Advanced level follows the GymACT rules which saw minor updates this season.
Why Advanced uses the GymACT rules
Their rule difficulty more closely aligns with what has historically worked for our membership, and it allows easier crossover with GymACT — which in turn creates more competitive MAG opportunities.
