Competition rules
A level for wherever you are.
WAG competition offers six levels — Xcel Silver, Xcel Gold, Xcel Platinum, Xcel Diamond, and Xcel Sapphire — plus our Open Scoring Level. We start from the USAG rules, then add our own rulebook and our own named skills — moves that count in UCG and nowhere else. So you can build a routine for whatever level you’re competing at.
Open Scoring is our unique level that encourages both difficulty and creativity. It has its own rules and an interactive calculator. See how it works.

Why is competition divided between collegiate and community?
The community division originated because some clubs’ schools will only provide funding for nationals if it is a collegiate-only competition. Each division has unique training and life circumstances, and dividing the two keeps competition fair while keeping everyone on the same floor.
Why is cross-gender competition allowed?
Allowing cross-gender competition aligns with our core value of providing maximum opportunity. Gymnastics is one of the few sports that offers different opportunities based on gender, and we are working to keep every event open to every athlete.
Why did top-of-session qualification go away?
The level of competition can vary between sessions, so not all sessions have the same opportunity to get the top spot. Some sessions might be easier or harder than others, so it wasn’t fair for an easy session to lock in qualification spots.
